TEC Basics

Tec Basics is a multi-use course that focuses on orientation to new dive equipment, technical diving skills, and techniques. It is an optional level that can help divers explore new equipment configurations and refine their foundational skills before moving on to Tec 40 Diver.
Consists of two knowledge development segments, one practical application and two no stop dives. Designed for divers who want to get experience and develop skills with tec dive equipment configurations while focusing on their buoyancy and trim. This course is also useful for technical divers who may need a refresher or an orientation to a new dive equipment configuration.

Course overview

Our courses combine convenient online learning with practical training. Start by completing the e-learning modules at your own pace, then join us for a session where our experienced instructors will guide you through essential skills.

PADI eLearning

2-4 hours

Work at your own pace, online or offline, using a computer or mobile device. Connect with your instructor for in-water training, or whenever you have a question. Learn about different types of underwater scooters, their care and maintenance and how to use a DPV when diving with a buddy.

Training with instructor

1 day - 2 dives

You'll learn about technical diving equipment, proper rigging and setup, trim and propulsion techniques, as well as team diving strategies and emergency procedures for handling free flows and out-of-gas situations. Starting with your basic recreational gear, you'll gradually incorporate technical equipment, diving with either a single cylinder, double cylinder, or sidemount configuration. Your instructor will guide you in selecting the right equipment based on your personal diving goals.
